S.T.E.M Day

Pre-K Partnerships instructional coaches in Dallas ISD expressed a need to increase student’s exposure to S.T.E.M activities. Volunteers are a valued resource of Head Start of Greater Dallas and an integral part of early childhood education. This is why when the Pre-K Partnership site, A.M. Brooks’ site director mentioned the need to increase the number of volunteer hours I took action.

I created S.T.E.M day, a quarterly event geared to expose Dallas ISD’s youngest learners and their caregivers to science, technology, engineering, and math activities. Flyers and invitations were created and distributed based on seasonal themes.

Volunteer hours increased by 50% which in turn directly increased funding for students enrolled at Head Start A.M. Brooks.

Diversity Matters

Celebrating diversity is a top priority of Head Start and Dallas ISD. I piloted A.M Brooks’ First Chinese New Year Parade to increase volunteer hours and diversity education. Volunteers were invited to participate in the day’s festivities in which students would listen to music, stories, create crafts and participate in their very own Chinese New Year Parade.
